Unhappy Timing Belt Failure

While driving to work my 1997 Honda Accord engine cut off & would not start. After I had it towed to the shop the mechanic said the timing belt failed! Are there two belts on this engine?Could I have engine damage?I ask because the mechanic wanted to replace the belt.

Its very likely that at the least you have some bent valves possibly piston and rod damage.

Highly unlikely that just a new belt would fix it.
