I ended up playing that stake and had IAC valve replaced. Now the check engine light is off, I'm not able to predict on this but it's off.

Now I want to do some maintenance care for the car. It has been running fine since the replacement. I have not had problems like startup or sudden stop, but it runs a bit noisy, accelerating speed doesn't feel comfortable, the wheel feels somehow unreliable. The engine in the idle mode (P or N gear) rotates about 1500 rpm, but I'm not sure whether it's a problem. Anyway, it's an used car, high miles, and sitting for quite a while, so expectably there may be things to do for it.

What do you think I should tell the mechanics? Or in other words: What would you do if it were your car? I think this is not a good question, but I appreciate your advice

What if anything are comfortable doing yourself such as changing spark plugs ect?

The idle being at 1500rpm is higher than it should be, follow the link i posted earlier and following the steps provided reset the base idle.

As for maintenance, do you have any records of previous service done on the car? If not i would suggest new plugs (ngk), possibly a new distributor cap and rotor, depending on its condition and service records if any also possibly an oil change. These things are all pretty easy and i would imagine you could do these things yourself and save the money that someone else would charge you for these normal maintenance items.

on the other hand, if no service records are available to you i would also suggest a timing belt and water pump replacement which you should have done by someone familiar and experienced in the process.

Someone else here may also have some other ideas that i havent thought about at this point
