'00 Accord V6-tach not working
I've got a 2000 Honda Accord V6 and the tachometer has recently been stuck on 0. Can someone point me in the right direction in diagnosing this. Is there a relay or module that sends power to the tach and can I just replace that or does the guage go bad itself and you have to replace the whole cluster?
thx

And... does the check-engine light come on when you first turn the key on (bulb check)?
I think by 2000, the tachometer signal comes from the ECU, not from the ignitor. So be a little bit careful when everyone tells you its a bad ignitor.

Yes, the odometer is still working and the "main't reqd" or check engine light turns on with all the rest of the instrumentcluster warning lights then turns off with them. Itis not being lit up after I turn the key off and all others simultaneously turn off. What does this tell me?
I heard somewhere on this site about an electronic control module-does that have to do with the tach power source?

Check-engine lamp comes on to verify the bulb is not burned out. The fact that it goes out& stays out means its not detecting any errors at the moment. That kinda narrows it down to the instrument cluster itself, or the wiring from the ECM to the cluster.
The ECM is the computer that controls the engine & tranny. More properly called the PCM = Powertrain Control Module. I incorrectly called it the ECU. It also creates the signal that drives the tachometer needle.

PCM is located under the center console, about a foot forward from the gearshift lever. Almost alongside your foot when you drive, but centered above the exhaust tunnel. Its a pain to dismantle the center console.
I dont have wiring info any more, I no longer own the 98 Accord or its Helm book...
BTW, the MAINT REQD. lamp is not the same as the CHECK ENGINE lamp. If your CHECK ENGINE lamp doesnt come on for the bulb-test, it may be burned out. Then you dont know whether or not you have any errors.
