Default 02 Accord coupe center tail light

Hello, I’m new to the forum so thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some advice! I have an 02 Accord v6 coupe and the center tail light is dumping water into the trunk from the lights when opened. I’ve read this is a common problem and narrowed my specific problem down to a bad seal around the center trunk tail light. So I’m going to silicone it. My question is should I remove the tail light and silicone behind it etc. or can I just tape off around it and silicone it with the center tail light in place? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not as familiar with the coupe tail light, but does sealing that in place make changing the bulbs impossible?

I'd probably pull of the tail light to see if the gaskets have obvious damage that silicone could repair. I'd likely spend the money to replace the gaskets, or find a way to use the silicone to seal the gaskets so I could remove the taillight.

So I can’t just replace the gasket i would have to buy the whole assembly. And no, it would not prevent me from changing the light if needed. I forgot to mention that my dad actually had the whole assembly off and siliconed behind it. But water is still getting in somewhere. No cracks or breaks in the light itself. So I thought it might need sealed from the outside also. I have attached a pic! The arrows are pointing to the seal in question. With no cracks or breaks in the tail light…im kind of at a loss as what to try next if Thai doesn’t work! Thank for the help!!
