Default 03 Accord Thermostat??

Hi All,
I have a 03 Accord and this summer I have been noticing the temp hand rising over half almost to 3/4 when idling, this might be at a drive thru or red light. As soon as I start moving again the hand returns to normal operating temp.

This only occurs when it is very hot outside (28+ C) , fan cuts in but the temp hand still rises.

Also noticed last winter that if I start the car in the morning and leave running for 15-20 mins to warm up. There is no heat until I drive for 2-3 mins and then the air turns hot. The temp hand is in the same position and the car is left going long enough to generate heat.

Could this be the thermostat? Water pump?

All fluid levels are fine.

Thanks for your help.

Are both fans running when it starts to overheat?

T-stats are pretty cheap - even if you go OE which I would. So confirm both fans are working....then go for a t-stat replacement, Let us know what you have from there.

Hi,
When I first checked, both fans were working, however looks like there was a loose connection or short in the fan on the drivers side. Fixed now and the problem is no more.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the follow up.

Glad it was a pretty simple repair.
