I had a 2.5L Acura TL and it had a similar appearance solenoid. It was a permanently sealed unit and not repairable. The repairable units have a trapezoidal shaped cover that can be removed.

good luck

I guess what I meant is apparently the sealed solenoid can be replaced instead of the whole entire starter.

Thanks guys for the fast response, I really do appreciate it.

So the Honda dealership and my mechanic found out that the problem was the starter. Do you guys recommend I should get a new starter from Honda dealership ($550 with labor) or remanufactured ($400 with labor)?

Remanufactured means that all parts are brought back to "new" spec; I never buy new starters or alternators, just remanufactured ones.

Either is probably OK. Acura parts are the gold standard. Starters from auto parts stores are known for "out-of-box" problems. However this would be the shop's issue not yours, but could require another trip to shop.

I like to re-use my own starter w/ a rebuild by a starter/alternator shop. Costs about the same as rebuilt from auto parts, but I have more confidence in the rebuild of my own starter.

good luck

I too try to avoid "rebuilt" starters and such, however, I have always had very good results when using "remanufactured" (there is a significant difference between the two) components.
