I have a 06 SE with a manual transmission. When I start the car with the clutch down it idles at about 1500. When I put the clutch in and have it in neutral it stays around 1500 for a few seconds and then drops down to around 950 or so. Is the higher idle just because there's no load on the engine or should I be concerned?

 

Cold start fast idle?

 

Yup. I did some reading and I think it's programmed to warm up the engine by idling faster on startup.

 

when it is colder outside the engine automatically idles at a higher rpm as well as run a little bit richer until it warms up
