07 Accord, 5 spd, leaving in gear does not stop roll
Hi all,
I have a 2007 Accord SE, 5 speed, 4 cyl.
Recently I have noticed that when I park on a hill and leave in gear, many times the car will still roll. It happens about 50% of the time. Doesn't matter which gear, the same thing happens. It does not pop out of gear, but it does jerk a tiny bit and then will continue to roll until I take further action. This happens in both directions.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Handbrake.
Sounds like the hill is steep enough to make the engine spin. See, a manual transmission doesn't have a positive lock like when you shift an auto into "P". That's why they used to teach in drivers-ed to turn the wheels against the curb when you park on a hill.
Reverse is usually a numerically lower gear than 1st, so many times it's better.

It's the engine's compression that holds it. Does your engine run like it has weak compression? I normally use the handbrake when I park, but it seems like it would take a steep hill to turn over the engine. I can't really think of another reason at the moment.
Thanks.
I'm not sure what driving would low compression would actually feel like.
I may be wrong on this but in my cars in the past, when I parked on a hill I would drop it into gear and let it catch then i would use the handbrake.
I scheduled an appointment at the dealership I purchased the car at (I bought it over a year ago, large honda dealership). Will post what they tell me immediately afterwards!
