I recorded a ton of mp3 albums on a DVD-R and stuck it in my mp3-playing CD player... it spit it back out at me with a disc read error (figured I'd try anyways)...

I understand the difference between a CD-R and a DVD-R, but has anyone had any luck getting the CD player to play mp3's on a DVD-R? I would rather have my collection on 5-10 mp3 DVD-R's instead of 30-40 CD-R's.

Unless your car has a DVD player in it you're not going to read those disks. No CD player can play or read a DVD. If it could then it's called a cd/dvd or just a dvd drive. DVD's run at multiple layers and typically in smaller grooves than CD's so it requires a completely different laser to read them. That's why it's simple for a DVD player to play/read a CD but not the other way around... It's like trying to stick an 8 track into a tape deck....

No problem... I should note though that there are aftermarket decks that will do DVD's...
