Default 09 Accord #3 plug fouls

We have a 09 accord with a v6 eco. It sometimes looses as much as 1.5 quarts per 1500 miles sometimes not. No leaks. At about 30k we got a error code and engine ran rough. Honda changed the #3 spark plug and checked the coil. At about 41K it happened again and they did the same thing and updated the program. At 48K it did it again and I changed the #3 plug and cleard the code. Thirty miles later it did it again and I replaced another plug and cleared the code. It lasted another 1800 miles and did the same thing again. I finally got back home and took it in again. I showed the plugs and talked to the tec. He seemed to know what was going on. I go the car back and the ticket says he changed the intake and exhaust rocker arms. What does this have to do with the plugs fouling? I am at a lost. Cant get in touch with the tech and no one there will give any answer to why.

It could be that a leaking valve stem seal could cause oil consumption and plug fouling. Replacing rocker arm would not fix this problem, although it is possible to replace a valve stem seal w/o removing the cylinder head.

Could they have checked the rocker arm to valve stem gaps? This makes sense, but replacing a rocker arm makes no sense to me.

good luck

Default Tsb 011-33

You may have an issue that is the result of engine overload under certain conditions caused by the VCM system. Mention TSB 011-33 to the service manager at your Honda dealership and ask that it be done. It involves reprogramming of the engine management software. Hopefully, no significant damage has been done so far. My 2010 EX-L has only 9700 miles and has had this done because I asked for it during a routine servicing to change oil and rotate the tires.

the update was done in Feb of last year.

The engine still burns about 1 quart every thousand miles.

Getting tired of guesing when it will happen again.
