1987 honda accord tach dies then engine dies

wow that generation has the coil in the distributor?did not know that!now i do !thanks RyeGuy!and the shock is not that bad!
I've been workin on cars for 25+yrs.and thats the fastest way to find out if you have a leaky plug wire,instead of waitn till the sun goes down???

actually the coil is seperate from distributor i think, it is a small coil aboit 10 " from the distributor and located closer to the firewall

Check for engine codes. On your car it is simple. Turn the key to the II position, but do not try to start the car. Slide the front driver's seat all the way back. Under the driver's seat is the ECU and it will have a window with a flashing LED.


Codes will keep repeating, a 2 second pause will happen between codes.

Hold on, is your accord fuel injected?

Is this a DX, LX or LXi - or another way, is this carb'd or fuel injected.

Has the issue happened again? Kind of hard to know what is wrong if the car is working.

Are the tune up items (cap, rotor, plugs, inspect wires) up to date.

I like the 3rd gens (86-89)
