Default 1988 accord

I have a 1988 honda accord 150k that was running fine one day. Now it wont ldle and it will barely pull itself around. It has a little valve noise. Could this be a timing belt that has skipped? Can this happen or do they always just snap and blow the motor? BK Martin

Check everything else to rule it out. If the belt actually breaks, it would not run AT ALL. If it simply skipped a tooth or 2, itll run badly. All you have to do is take off the upper timing cover & check the camshaft timing. If its off, replace the belt. Dont take a chance by simply re-timing it.
