Default 1988 accord starting issue

Hi,
My 88 just barely turns over after sitting, say, overnight. If it catches than it will start right up. If it has not been sitting too long it will also start right up.

Checked battery. Had system test done at auto supply. Battery good, alternator fine, starter fine.

The starter just seems to not be getting the juice. No telltale clicking from the solenoid either.

Thanks for looking

Default Check your vacuum hoses.

My friend has a 94 Toyota Camry. It had similar problems plus it ran terribly and it turned out we found a vacuum hose to the throttle body had come loose. Its a quick easy check before you pull all your hair out. Good Luck!

Default update

I am thinking the issue must be related to a ground issue somewhere. I plan to remove the negative terminal on the battery overnight and see if it starts up normally in the AM.

I will keep the crowd of viewers on the edges of their seats until the starting attempt tomorrow.

Thanks

Is this a DX, LX or LXi.......or another way of asking, is this carb or fuel injected, it may or may not matter but if further help is needed????

A current draw of some sorts would casue the battery to be low after sitting for long periods. Do you have a volt meter?

Hi Poorman212,
The car is a carbureted DX. I do have a multi meter but am not well versed in usage.

update:
After connecting the neg terminal on the battery in the AM the car started right up. So one would think that a drain overnight has been the issue, however, after testing did not reveal a drain issue. First I got the test light but unfortunately it had a battery in it and an led light so probably was of little help.

After some web mining Car battery going flat how to check for a drain - YouTube I used my multimeter set on 10 amps and tried the drain test- nothing (0.00). To confirm this inexplicable result I turned on the dome light and got about a 0.75 amps reading. Then to make extra sure I turned on just the small trunk light and got .18 or so amps through the meter.

I guess the question is now what?

The voltage on the battery tested at around 10.95 which is, I presume, a bit low. Still why would it start right up after leaving it not connected but at the same time not demonstrate a drain?

scratch scratch

I would disconnect the battery and clean all ends of both battery cables. Check the battery cable for signs of corrosion.

After all the high level research and intriguing mystery turns out- I got a bad battery. I guess the friendly folks at Advanced Auto either were using inferior test equipment or did not know how to use it.

With some good cold weather coming the new battery will be put to the test.
Thanks

Hey, you got it going....the 10.9 on the battery even after the cable was off.......that was the key in my tiny head.
