1990-91 auto-transmission
Hi from newbie.
I have an1991 ex I purchased with an bad autotransmission that would slip in reverse and not shift properly. I purchased a 1990( lx I think)that was wrecked and eventually my freind swapped out motor and transmission.We took it out for the test ride and it feels it starts out in 2 gear and then shifts to 4. Before we did the swap it started locking up in park and it still does.It set most of 2 years and that is when that started .
If any of you have a good idea what my problem or problems are,any assistance would very much be appreciated.
It also has the sport mode which I don't understand.

The 'Sport Mode' changes the shift points thru the TCU.
Does the 'S' light stay on when you turn the key on? it should come on for a couple seconds [runs a self check] then turn off.
You can use the Service Connector to see if there are any codes stored;

The 'S' light will flash a code.
The shifter getting 'locked' in park is a problem with the shift solenoid, or brake light switch usually.

RE: 1990-91 auto-transmission
Ok, thanks.
I will observe the s light and have my freind check to see if any codes are stored.It will probably be a couple days as we have the car at his dads farm and have differant work scheduals.
Is it possible a badfuse could becausing it to skip 1st and start in 2nd when you take off, etc.?
Some thing has also drained th battery down in about 2 weeks since we had it out for the test run.
