If you mean the engine slightly overspeeds during the shift and shift is delayed, this is usually a symptom of aging automatic trans. It may help to drain, refill, run 10mins,and repeat3-4 times to replace most of the fluid in the trans. Honda ATF is consensus best fluid. Check ebay for reasonable prices on Honda ATF.

If you slightly let off gas, the shift will usually go ahead. I know this is not normal, but my brother has nursed a Toyota Camry for years w/ this procedure.

A rebuilt or used trans may be only true fix. For a 90 Accord you'll spend more than the car is worth.

good luck

I'm not sure what you mean either. It could be the tranny, but...

When I hear of a stumble around 2000 rpms, I would suggest cleaning the EGR ports.

Search T2T013.pdf on google and you will find a pdf on how to clean those out. Its something simple/cheap to do, and it might fix the problem. Hondas are known to have those ports plugged up.
