Default 1990 Honda Accord Transmission

I own a 1990 Honda Accord Lx.
Well about a week ago i had to replace my shift control cable and got it installed but not adjusted, due to being late for work. So when I would start the vehicle it would start in reverse. Other than that their were no problems the rest of the day.
Then later on before i adjusted the cable, when the car was in reverse it would make a loud grinding noise with no reverse power. Which i knew wasnt good. So i adjusted the cable and hoped the grinding would be gone, but it never went away.
So my question is: Do i now have to replace my transmission?

i would make extra sure that the cable is properly adjusted first ..i am assuming it is a AT tranny..........did you adjust the cable at the center console pin?? remove the pin and make sure that the cable is lined up properly ,,if not adjust by the 10 mm nuts till it is lined up

Yes it is an automatic.
I am pretty sure it is properly aligned because every other gear (P,N,D3,D4,2,1) engages with no problem.
Unless Reverse is real touchy?
