Lightbulb 1991 to 1995 engine swap?

Hello, knowledgeable ones! I once again darken your doorstep.

I posted a similar question before, but it had lots of non-options. This time, there are more options! I think.

My '91 has a good engine and bad body. I had asked about the worthiness of finding and transporting a car with a good body/bad engine, swapping the engine, etc. I was told by you guys it wasn't worth it. BUT, a '95 stick has turned up locally with supposedly a good body but needs a motor.

My question now is that with a local car (assuming they're telling the truth, no rot, good clutch, good parking brake ($500 to fix that!!!), a/c works haha - nah,) is this do-able, physically? I just looked up on Wiki, and they're not the same generation.

BTW, I'll bet you their timing belt went. o.O But I'd have "mine" changed while doing the potential swap.

A tow would be about 60 miles (!) No clue how much that would cost, but it sounds really expensive. Any advice ASAP, before it's sold, would be greatly appreciated! BTW, here's the CL listing (please don't buy it before me... )

http://nh.craigslist.org/ctd/1835243755.html

It's Best Offer, too. How much would you think it's worth approx? I'm in southern NH, USA.

Thanks!!!

The 91 is a 4th generation and the 95 is a fifth generation. So the swap may not be as simple as you hope.

Is your car a manual or automatic transmission?

Also, what do you want to spend for a car?

Car's in my .sig, same basic specs as the car being sold, I believe: Accord LX, 5-speed, 2.2L, 4-dr - everything except the generation. I didn't know if it was just a styling update and the engines are swappable or if they're not compatible.

What would I spend for a '95 with no engine? As little as possible! I thought you guys could give me a hand with that info, in the case that the swap is possible. The guy selling just wanted a BO, and I have no idea what I might offer.

I can buy a '99 Civic in pretty good shape here for about $3,500. It would cost almost that much to fix up my '91 Accord. I'd rather buy a newer car given only those two option, but I thought if I could pick up this car with a blown engine cheap and the swap wouldn't be too much, then I might save some money. That's why I'm wondering if anyone here knows for sure if they can be swapped.

Ok, I found this info on another site:

1990-1993 F22A1 2156cc
1990-1991 F22A4 2156cc
1991-1993 F22A6 2156cc

1994-1997 EX F22B1 2156cc
1994-1997 DX/LX F22B2 2156cc

I don't know if the 95 is an LX, but that's what popular. I'll email him and ask.

I don't know where to find the info for what engine I have. I figured if I could find the two engine numbers, that would make a lot of the advice easier to give.

I don’t see why it can’t be done. Ppl swap the f22bx into cb7s so I don’t see why it can’t be don’t the other way around. I mean its the same engine...just diff. head.

Whats wrong with the f22bx (95 engine?)...if the head is still good just swap the blocks since they are the same.

I was just asking the total amount of money you want to spend (car + engine swap + towing, etc).

The engines are similar. I think that the driver's side mount may be different, so I am not sure how that will work out. You may get away with using the 95 driver's side mount.

You have a working wire harness and ECU from your 91, so you can use those. How many miles do you have on your 91 engine?

You will have to call around to get quotes on the swap. Maybe call some local junkyards and ask them who would do the swap. You may find that you can buy a 94/95 engine and maybe a junkyard you buy it from will install it. Some around where I live do that. You will just have to call around to get an idea of the cost to swap it.

Oh! The total, sorry. The total to fix my current car, not including the clutch, is $3,200. *spew* Sorry, still makes me do a spit-take. I can buy a '99+ Civic in nice shape for that or a littlel more! If I sell my '91 for parts, I think I'll have about $3,500.

I didn't think of just buying the '95 and putting a '95 engine on it; thanks for the idea. I did ask a good shop in the area that does rough estimates by email, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. There's a good junk yard right where I used to live, and I can email them, too. They don't do any work, though.

To seriously consider a swap, I like to keep the total under...hm, $1,800? [Wipe that coffee off your monitors, gentlemen.] I did find another forum at about 5am last night that's specific to Honda swaps, and they said it's a simple bolt-in, only have to consider wiring connections.

My engine's got high miles, so that is a factor I've been thinking hard on. It's got 230,000+ but has a new water pump and good alternator, runs perfect as far as I can tell, knocking or anything. Clutch is going, whole exhaust and parking brake need replacing ($500 to replace the cables???), big hole in unibody, timing belt is 5 years old but probably needs replacing, whole back end's rusting off... And I just put some nice reinforced-sidewall Yokohamas on the old girl less than about 3,000 miles ago! That was a waste of $300. It's been sitting for 7 months, so I assume all the belts need replacing.

Boy, the more and more I talk about it, the better and better it sounds just to get a Civic and hope it doesn't have any problems crop up in the next year or two. I'd have a mechanic look it over first or get one from my ex-neighbor who goes to auctions and then sells the cars at a small used car business. Very honest and nice guy who used to be a mechanic.

Right now I'm also talking with a guy who's got a performance-upgraded '99 Civic he _just_ bought that he can't get inspected for tinted windows and loud exhaust. Tint I can remove. Muffler I can get replaced. The question is selling price, of course! Think he got it for $3,500 or less but wants to make a little money off it - out of my price range. He keeps saying he wants offers, but I have no idea what to even guess at that. I should probably find a Civic forum and ask there.

Ok, thanks for all your help! Even if it reinforces the earlier advice to forget it, I know little about cars and have no car-knowlegeable guy in my life to help me with these basic questions, so your opinions matter a lot. I'm on a fixed income and just need to find ASAP the cheapest way to get myself a reliable car.
