Default 1991 Accord... she runs, but just for a minute!!

I'm a new owner this will be my first honda.... I am a tech on Land Rovers and I have worked on alot of older porsches and Bmw's ....... Now I'm questioning if I know anything at all!!

So I got the car, it will crank up, run smooth for a few seconds then it seems to wanna rev up around 2500rpms, then it'll run smooth there for a min. or so, then just die, I can crank it back up but it runs really rough then and seems like giving it gas or such doesnt help at all..... it'll go back to idle speed then spit and sputter and die... so on... I can re crank it everytime, but it wont stay running long, some times its smooth then just flat out dies....

The only code it has is map sensor...... 5 flashes on the obd I

I cleaned the egr vavle, and one small vacumm line is broken right on the throttle body, seems to run in between the gasket where the throttle body attaches to the intake.....

any ideas would be much appericiated

I would do a tuneup, distributor cap, distributor rotor, and the spark plugs (NGK plugs recommended in the owners manual), since you may not know the maintenance done on this car.

I would reset the ECU by pulling the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box. If the code returns, I would start troubleshooting that code.

I would get a Haynes manual for your car. Even better would be to buy a factory shop manual in pdf form on a site like Ebay. The diagnostics will help you to pinpoint the problem.

Good luck.
