I checked all the line under the hood, no probs, fuses are good. Any trouble shooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be most suspicious of the contact/slip ring under the steering wheel, the usual symptom is the cruise button lights up but the cruise cannot be set.

 

before going to trouble shooting try something real simple.. drive the car, engage the cruise , with your foot under the brake pedal pull it toward the top . if cruise engages you might have a bad brake switch ......if it is manual tranny, do it to the clutch pedal as well

i have seen either one of those switches go bad and make cruise inop.. if still no go,, start the trouble shooting like DUDE provided
