1991 Accord LX- S light started flashing. Acceleration seemed sluggish and it would skip second gear when shifting. Paperclipped the readout connector and got 7 flashes at the S light. Pulled the TCU out and I'm guessing that the capacitors look fine (no burns/leakage and doesnt wiggle)e Wiring and connections look good-
After being shut off and restarted the S light was off- took it for a test drive and seemed to drive normal. Shut it off and restarted it, S light started blinking again and began shifting weird again.
I'm assuming that the Shift Solenoid A is bad? Do both solenoids have to be replaced as a pair? Couldn't find a diagram but I'm assuming the solenoid at fault is the lower one next to the dipstick?
A TCU code 7 is an electrical fault on the shift solenoid A circuit. The issue can be the solenoid, wiring, or TCU. With such an old car, check for any corrosion or loose connectors.
Shift solenoid A & B are an assembly, so you'd have to replaced the whole part. I'm not sure if you can disassemble the assembly and swap in a good solenoid.

Thank you for your quick response, i've noticed that there's two separate solenoids- One right next to the engine oil dipstick (#1 in picture) and another right above it (#2). I imagine the shift solenoid at fault is #1? Or do both #1 and #2 need to be replaced together? I'll check the connectors again, hate to buy an expensive part and end up being the other at fault. Since it briefly worked then coded again is throwing a curveball..
I'm pretty sure it is #1. #1 is shift solenoid a and b. #2 are the lockup solenoids.
You can unplug #2 and see if the TCU throws lockup solenoid codes to be 100% sure. I'd might get a junkyard part in this case, because I a new honda part may be expensive or unavailable.
