Angry 1991 honda accord "s" light stays on...

I have a 1991 honda acoord lx the s light stays illumianted and I only have 2 gears (1st and 3rd). It is a auto trans and will start off in 3rd unless I manually put it in first using the gear shift. Every now and then the s light will go off will shift just like normal but if I am running 50mph or faster and the s light comes on the car will downshift to 3rd gear. I have read the code and it was a 17, I replaced the vss and nothing changed. I have also taken the tcu out and checked the board for anything burnt and nothing. Please help.

Code 17 is what the ECU detected.

To determine the TCU code, count the S light flashes.

I could only find one pigtail at the passenger side kick panel and it was blue with orange and green wires I jumped it out with a paper clip and the check engine light had one long flash and seven short flashes. I thought it was for the tcu, If you would please tell me where to read the tcu code its about to drive me crazy driving 35 mph everywhere. thanks

Try resetting the TCU by pulling the BackUp fuse for 20 secs. If this temporarily fixes the problem, you have a bad TCU. See my other post on 91 LX today for details.

good luck

It's the one labeled 7.5 in the fuse box under the hood. Top right as you're facing the car.

now it seems that it only does it when it rains hard. But only for about 10 miles and then its fine till it rains again.. Is there anything that can get wet that would cause it to do this... Please help

Check the wire harness that goes to the VSS on the transmission.
