Default 1991 Honda accord starting problem

I have a 1991 accord lx automatic and sometimes when I start the vehicle as soon as the Rpms get to normal it completely dies. If I turn the switch off and try to start the car again it will only go up to about 1000 Rpms and die again. It has done this in all types of weather and with the car warm or cold start. In the past I have had to leave the car for several minutes and when I get back it starts perfect no stutter at all. I'm lost with this and don't even know where to start. One other thing is the starter seems to be going bad. I'm thinking this because at times when the car is turning over it seems to be dragging as if the battery is weak. On other occasions when I turn the key nothing's happens, I then tap on the starter and it starts. The battery is only about 3 months old. Does anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit and is it even worth the time rebuilding it versus replacing.

A little more info on the starting and dying issue. After it initially dies with the rpms going normal and dying it doesn't always stutter everytime I try to start it again sometimes it just turns over.

Its easier to just buy a new starter, if you really want a cheap option go to your local junkyard.

Have you checked/cleaned your IAC recently?

Check/clean the IAC, FITV, & boost valve. Any one of these might be involved in the idle dropping & stalling.

I cleaned all that was mentioned but only time will tell. It has done it a couple times a day or work fine for a month.

I'd check for codes as well. Also, are the tune up items up to date?

Notice when this happens whether Alt, Oil Pressure, and Check Engine Lights come on when car dies. If not, you may have an intermittent ignition switch assy, a fairly common problem.

good luck

My alternator went out right at a month ago and I haven't had the Honda do it anymore. I don't know why this would cause the problem but only time will tell if it does it again.
