My ‘92 LX Wagon shifts out of gear while in D4/D3, Car will not even shift into drive of out into D4/3 and will only shift if put into D1/2 and even then if rpm’s reach the 2/3k mark will throw itself out of gear (but still display that the car is in drive). Took it to a shop and they said I would need a brand new transmission. From my experience and what others have said it could either be the TCU or something up with the planetary gears. Anyone else have this problem or know a fix? Thank you.

 

Most likely a worn out transmission. When did you last change the transmission fluid? Have you checked the fluid level?

 

sounds like might have some worn discs in the clutches
