1992 accord lx not passing smog/ aircare
i have tried that and the hoses are all connected and tight and still check engine comes on... is there a way to just disconnect the bulb .. the CEL has been like this for the past 50 000 km that i know.. maybe even more.. and engine is running fine .. just want to get rid of the light as easy and cheap as possible...
One final suggestion. Pull back carpet on pax side, turn keyswitch ON, and see if the red LED flashes. Note, there are two LED windows near the center of the module, one ECU and one TCU. The ECU is the LH window as you look at the module. You don't have to short the service check connector w/ this method. Codes are read same as CEL flashes.
Only ways I know to eliminate the CEL is 1) fix the problem or 2) pull the bulb. Most state emissions stations will not pass a vehicle w/ a MIL set.
good luck

If available, O2 should be close to zero. The hydrocarbon failure is unburned gasoline. Assume the plug/distributer/wiring is current, then the most likely problem is the O2 sensor. If 100k miles or more replace. OBD2 so likely inexpensive and accessible. Get a code readout. Handheld digital about $30. Also compare your results to Average if available.Gasoline isn't cheap so you want to maintain for best efficiency. NO is affected by the HC failure so get the HC right first. If HC and CO are good and still high NO, replace the EGR valve esp if >100k. NO is important to engine operation.
im guessing it is the O2 sensor.. i do have and OBD reader but i cannot get a code readout because the 1992 accords do not have that option... doesnt have that connector under the steering wheel... my next steps are replacing the egr valve and O2 sensor... how about the cat converter? my muffler is noisy but dont want to replace that as the car is close to retirement ..270 kilometers.
