i live in CA, so the laws are more strict, but do headers really affect your smog tests?

no not usually since all you are doing is removing some the restriction to the exhaust

You might have to order a header that has passed C.A.R.B. and has a number stamped on it to prove it. DC Sports has the # on their headers. I know of California folks that got a fixit ticket simply because they had an aftermarket air intake that did not have a C.A.R.B. number. Check into it before doing anything.

When I had my car smogged last I asked the people about headers and CARB exempt. Yes they do have to be CARB exempt in order to pass smog. Just curious how they will know if it's aftermarket or not. What if that heat shield is left on maybe they won't catch it? Just a thought. heh.

if they don't catch it and you pass smog then you're fine until someone does catch it.... but if they notice it then you just wasted $250.00 + on a header that you can't use anymore and you'll have to put the stock exhaust back on or buy one that is C.A.R.B. exempt.... In my opinion it's not worth the risk unless you've got the cash to spend. and if you've got an extra $250.00 sitting around then just donate $100.00 to the forum, give me $100.00 and save yourself the $50.00 that you would be out for not getting a legal one and getting busted *L*
