My 93 Accord (324000 miles) automatic fires right up and runs fine until the motor gets warm then it sounds like its running on 1 or 2 cylinders coughing and hacking and then dies. Fire it up again and it might run fine for a few minutes and then starts missing and dies. So far I replaced the cap and rotor the plug wires are fairly new. Any ideas out there? Does this model have an OBDII port?

 

OBD-2 started in 1995/1996 so yours doesn't have that. But its easy to read error codes by shorting the SCS connector with a paperclip. Look for instructions in the DIY area.

 

Thank you Jim I forgot about this procedure on code readings. I have not had a car of this vintage in many years. This car was cheap and in response to $4 gas back in 2008. NEVER owned anything but Fords (1985 and 2005 F350 diesels,2000 Mustang).

 

I do not have a check engine light on but I checked for codes anyway. The light came on when I shorted the obd1 and it stayed on solid no blinking. I figured it would show something as bad as it's missing.The abs light has been on for a while and it blinked once and cut off. Is this an abs code ? I have cleaned the oil out of the spark plug wells I need to replace the o rings under the rocker arm assembly. I hate to just start throwing parts at it.

 

Oil in the sparkplug wells can cause the misfiring. Your 1993 doesn't have the crank fluctuation sensor so it doesn't directly detect misfiring (that comes with OBD-2 in 1996).

When you jumper the connector & the CEL comes on solid that means no codes are stored. But OBD-1 doesn't have the ability to measure as much stuff anyway. Seems like if the misfiring gets bad enough you'll get code 43 because it thinks it's running too lean.

Have you changed the valvecover gasket? Often enough, oil leaks through the upper sparkplug tube seals, and you might not have to remove the rockers & do the lower seals.
