1993 Manual Transmission Issue Tonight

RE: 1993 Manual Transmission Issue Tonight
First, check your tranny oil level, before it gets worse.
To explain it, you gotta understand how a manual tranny works. The actual gears are always engaged, but onegear in each gearset can spin free onit's shaft.
1st & 2nd gears share a synchronizer hub between them. When you shift between 1st & 2nd you're pushing that hub back & forth between the 2 gears. Whichever direction you push it, it locks that gear to the shaft. When you push the shift lever sideways, you're hooking the lever up to a different synchro hub, say 3rd & 4th.
I think your 2nd gear got itself seized onto the shaft, so it stayed "engaged" even when you pushed the synchro hub into neutral. But you managed to break it loose so now it works.
Did I mention to check your tranny oil?? Operating without enough oil is one way to cause this to happen.
Better yet, CHANGE your gear oil. There's probably some debris from this damage so you want it out of there.

Honda genuine manual tranny fluid is pretty good. Honda didn't start selling that stuff until maybe'97, so your owner's manual would have called for 10w-30 engine oil.
Another choice that some people like is Pennzoil "Synchromesh" fluid.
I think2 or3 quarts, I can't remember?
