Default 1995 honda Accord ex coupe fuel tank strap bracket.

I am in the middle of replacing a fuel tank. I managed to remove the tank but not without having to rip off the rusted tank straps. The bolt that holds the strap to the bracket is stripped and it keeps spinning. To sum it all up. I want to replace the mounting brackets along with the fuel straps. Do i have to remove the rear frame for that? Anyone ever had any luck?

I have been on here a while and never heard anyone having to do this repair. Search the forum to see.

I've removed the straps on other cars, not accords, so I don't know what bolt is spinning and how the bracket is set up. Is the bolt stripped towards the front of the car or the back? Can you post a picture?

The mounting brackets are in the Rear near the trunk. The bolts that keep spinning are the bolts of that are mount from the strap to the mounting bracket. The problem was as I was applying pressure to the bolt to loosen the strap from the mounting bracket, it literally bent the mounting bracket due to all the rust i'm assuming. This afternoon I took a close look at the bracket, and it looks like the bolt that would release the bracket is right above the rear sub frame.

The close up is bolt that's holding the bracket to the frame. The picture from a distance is the actual piece of the fuel strap still bolted to the bracket because the bolt is stripped.

Angel Rivera,

I am having a very similar issue (95 honda accord EX, 2 door, 5 speed manual transmission). In my case, it appears that the nut that is welded to the bracket—in which the bolt screws in—has busted off of the bracket. Thus, the nut spins with the bolt, and neither come off of the bracket.

I am curious what you ended up doing. I do not want to remove the rear frame if I do not have to. What did you do in your situation?

Thank you,
Zero

I have the same problem, now the nut spins with a bolt. How did you solve this problem ? I can't think of anything that would fit inside the mount to hold the nut =(

Alexander,

I ended up having to completely disassemble the rear subframe enough so that I could get to the bolt and remove it. I had to purchase a new bracket (https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...1-sm4-000.html), fuel tank band (https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...2-sv1-l00.html), and the associated bolts.

It was a timely job, and I had to perform a rear alignment afterwards. Just be patient, but persistent.

All works fine now!

You might try using needle nose vice grips to hold the nut. Other than that, you're looking at cutting the bolt head off, and replacing both the bolt and the nut. I think that's what I did on my 97 Accord when I dropped the tank to replace the fuel pump.
