Default 1995 Speed Senor Problem?!?

I am starting to have a problem with my 1995 Honda Accord. I believe the engine is a 4.2 VTEC 4-cyl about 250K miles. This has recently started happening over the past 2 weeks.

After driving for a while, the speedometer will start jumping around. Going from 10 miles to up to 60 and just jump around between that range. Then after awhile of doing that the green illumination around the "D" will start to flash. Is seems the the green light flashes on and off about 1 a second. Now the needle on the speedometer and the green light is both acting funny. But the car will still be running normally. But then sometimes the car will start accelerating roughly or act very sluggish.

Has anyone experienced this or something like this before? Sometimes I can just cut the car off and wait a few minutes and everything is fine. Sometimes that will not fix the problem. Also, this problem doesn't happen daily.

Any suggestions on what to check or change out????

Thanks in Advance

Davis

Welcome!
It DOES sound like the speed sensor (on the tranny). But I would have expected the check-engine light to show up too.

This isn't likely to become a long written PROCEDURE, so I'll move this to the General Tech section where it belongs.

So the speed sensor on the transmission is where I should start? How much work does it take to change that part out?

Thanks,

Davis

On top, way in back, about centered above an imaginary line between the drive axles. Kinda underneath the intake manifold. Remove the air intake tube to see better.

The VSS might not be bad. It might be loose/dirty/corroded wiring harness?
