PA,

I'm pretty sure that's how I did it.

It flashed then went out for a second...then it started doing the long flashes...

The first time through, it did 7 long blinks then 3 quick ones.

Then it did 7 long blinks and 2 quick ones.

Then 7 long and 1 quick.

Any ideas?

I actually figured out how to reset the SRS system and the light is off as of right now though.

Any idea, what those codes mean?

I tried looking all over the site and on google and couldn't find the list for 1996 Accord SRS codes..

Thanks again,

Donnie

The shop manual that I have for my 95 doesn't have a code 7-1, etc. I have a cd with the 96 shop manual on it and I'll take a look at and see if the 96 codes are different.

Call a dealer & ask. I'm pretty sure the airbags have a 'lifetime' warranty. (Unless your car has a salvage title)

Jim,

The car does not have a salvage title but it is a 1996 with about 165,000 miles. We are also about the 3rd owner of the car so I don't know if any warranty will still apply?

If you happen to see any codes that are 71,72,73 on that CD please let me know but it seems for now that the light is staying off. I figured out how to reset the SRS system so I went ahead and did it.

The light has been off for about an hour of driving time so we'll see how it goes.

Also, one more time could you explain what you mean by it "flashed a sub-code, then the main code"?

Thanks again everyone,

Donnie

Factory warranty for seatbelts & airbags is supposed to go with the car. Doesn't matter if you're the 20th owner.
It's worth a phone call to the dealer??

1996 honda accord ex 2.2

My SRS light was on for awhile and seemed to randomly go out and for about a year it was fine until a few weeks ago it randomly came back on. When I try to clear the code with the connector by the fuse panel nothing happens. I've tried to use different types of connectors and when i plug it in and turn the ignition on the SRS light just stays on and never extinguishes. Any ideas?

Have you triied sticking the paperclip in the yellow connector with the ignition off, waiting at least ten seconds, then start the car? Doe the light go off a few seconds after the car starts?

I went outside and tried that. Thanks for the suggestion. The light just stays on no matter what i do with the paperclip. The fuse is fine. Not sure why I don't get any indication of the paperclip affecting the plug in any way.

Are you shorting a connector plugged into a socket near or part of the fuse box?

The connector you want is plugged into a dummy connector below the coin tray towards the bottom of that plastic panel. When I sat in my accord, the connector sat on the opposite side of that plastic panel under the steering wheel from my left knee. Hope this helps.

A emanual I have has SRS, Type III for 1996 Accord and lists codes 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3 together as "Internal failure of the SRS Unit". Corrective action is listed as replacement.

Check car-part.com for a used part.

good luck
