Default 1998 Accord VTECH Solenoid problem?

I have a 1998 Honda Accord, i just bought the car about 2 months ago from a mechanic who just replaced the transmission, water pump, and timing belt. about a week ago i started having problems starting the car in the morning. It takes a few cranks to start once started the engine shakes for approx 10 seconds and sometimes it dies in the shaking. I brought it to a mechanic shop who said that i have an oil leak and need to replace the VTECH solenoid before they can determine what else is wrong with the car. I didn't think the VTECH solenoid would cause these problems. Should i get the solenoid replaced or should i take the car to a different mechanic for a second opinion? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!
