Default 2000 Accord A/C quit working

My daughter's 2000 Accord A/C quit suddenly. 4 cyl, auto, coupe.
She's away at school so it's hard to work on it-2 hour drive away. Today I went with a can of re-charge, but pressure dial went to the RED when attached. Instructions say "seek professional help" when pressure goes that high....HA! No way....
Because I was in my work clothes, I didn't go any further. So, is there a fuse or relay I should also check? She parks on the street, so no garage to work on it, either. AC worked fine until I gave her the car, any suggestions?? THANKS!!

Start the engine with the a/c turned off and take a look at the compressor. The plate in front of the compressor pulley (compressor clutch) should not spin. Turn on the a/c. Both radiator fans should turn on and the compressor clutch should spin with the pulley. The next step depends on what you find.

x2.

I've learned very recently don't trust the gauges with those cans.

Agree. If compressor is not rotating, then pressure will be equalized in system and high (pressure in psi ~= air temp in degF).

good luck
