2000 accord check engine light P1457
#11
HI,
I got the code P1457 for my 2000 honda accord. I went to the dealer, it came as canister related problem. He fixed it and after 2 weeks check engine light came again with same code. Dealer fixed it and said my car is rusted and thats why its causing problems with other valves.
Now after 1 month check engine light is on with same code. I want to know, What is the impact of this code? Dealer let me drive this car for a week without repair (as part was not available). But I want to know whether its necessary to get this repaired or we can survive with this code on (and not much impact on car)?
Thanks

This is part of a Honda service bulletin regarding P1457 affecting your model year:
The EVAP bypass solenoid valve can fail due to
corrosion. The solenoid valve may get water inside. If
the water contains road salt, the solenoid windings
could corrode, causing the valve to fail. In a few rare
instances, the corrosion could be severe enough to
cause an internal short in the solenoid valve, which
could damage the ECM/PCM. If this happens, both the
bypass solenoid valve and the ECM/PCM would need
to be replaced.
Vehicles driven in the Northeastern part of the U.S. are
more likely to have this problem because of the salting
of roads during the winter months. Vehicles driven
where salt is not used on the roads are much less likely
to have this problem.

Phill, When the car stops does all the lights on the dash go out? Take notice of this when it stops. If the dash lights are out it could be a different issue. Ignition Switch!! Not related to the Code. had to replace mine on a 99, plus there was a recall.

Here's a question regarding a code P1457,,,,,, I have two 1999 Honda's, one is an Accord and the other is a Civic. Both are displaying a P1457 code. Yes I live where the roads are loaded with salt in the winter. So the question is,,,,,,, While both cars has the check engine light on, could that in any way affect my gas mileage on these cars?? Thanks in advance for the input. I am getting about 20 MPG on both cars.

With the code there will be some loss but I wouldn't think it would be much. I'd be sure the tune up items are up to date...then again this time of year "winter blend" gas is going to take some as well.
