Default 2000 Accord - is "clear flood mode" supported?

Hello,

My 2000 Accord SE will not start. Yesterday all it would do is crank over and over(it was raining all day). Now today (minus the rain) the car sounds different, it is cranking over and it is almost starting. Big improvement over yesterday. But, I also smelled fuel when I got out of the car today so I am thinking its now flooded, just my luck.

I have read it's pretty hard to flood a fuel injected car, hmm. I tried to start the car 5 or 6 times in total(both days) and only for 2 or 3 seconds each time. I never once touched the gas petal, only turned the key.

Is the procedure called "Clear flood mode" an option for me?

From what I have read, all I do is put the gas petal to the floor before I start the car and then hold it there while trying to start the car.

Of course, the last thing I want to do is flood the car more, so please help.

Thank you.

bye for now,

Neil

Well, a few things come to mind.

Be sure that the CEL comes on and goes off after a few seconds. Key to On or Pos II, wait before going to "start" to see what the light does.

Are you getting spark?

I really don't think the issue is "flooding", kind of hard on the modern FI cars....now some of the v6's around this gen had issues with a "hot start" but I think you have a different issue......

How's the battery connections, are they clean and tight? Have you try getting a jump start? Just want to rule out a battery or connection problem.

well if it spinning the starter its not a battery problem. gotta be a spark problem, since he smells the fuel.

one of my old shop teachers, would pull a spark plug and crank the ignition to see if the plug sparked to see if the plugs were getting lit.

i would wear rubber gloves and be very careful if you attempt that though. it wont feel good if you get hit by a plug shock.

Thanks for the input people.

Went out today and after 3 or 4 short tries, she caught. I only used the key, no petal.

It was very wet the other day so I am thinking "spare", too. A Cold Start on a wet day can be full of surprises.

The car is at the garage and will be looked at tomorrow, so when I find out I will post what they say.

Thanks again for caring and keep up the great work.

bye for now

Default 2000 Honda Accord 4cyl 2.3L VTEC Sedan

Hello again

My 2000 Honda Accord 4cyl 2.3L VTEC will not Cold Start, again.

The car started fine for the guys at the garage so he just cleaned up the injectors a little and said everything else looked good. Yesterday, I went out to start the car and I was back to square one, it would crank and crank but won't catch. Today, I go out again and the same thing, it keeps cranking over and over.

I don't have a spark plug wrench so I can't remove the spark plugs to check for spark.

There is a click sound underneath the dash 2 sec. after I turn the key forward but I don't hear the pump for the gas running. Maybe I have bad hearing. I read you can unscrewing the gas cap and listen that way, will that help to hear the pump?

I do have a Volt meter if that helps us.

For what its worth, my driveway has a bit of an uphill grade. I say about 10 degrees, so everything is fighting gravity. What do you think about a weak gas pump? and how do I check that?

Please help.
