Default 2000 Accord, Hesitates and engine jerks when starting out

2000 Accord, 4 cyl., standard tranny. When I take off normally in first gear from a stand still, the car hesitates and the engine jerks or chugs is the only way to describe it. I have to rev the motor to 2K-3K rpm's to get it to go smoothly from a standstill. If the car is rolling slightly, it will pick up and go normally. I have had the codes scanned and nothing showed up?????? Could it be the TPS is bad and not throwing a code??

When was the last time you had plugs/wires/dist rotor changed? I had an issue awhile back with similar issues. From a stop it feels like you're riding a bronco almost and smooths out later.

Can you rev over 3000rpm? If not I would check the MAP sensor, I know I had that problem too, replaced that and she smoothed right out.

Not sure when plugs, wires and rotor were last changed. I might add this problem just started since a tranny change so the motor was taken out and put back in and the problem has been there since. It was running fine before the tranny change..................It rev's past 3000 rpm's fine. My question is, Could it be the throttle position sensor bad without a code showing????????

Suspecting the throttle position sensor seems to be a popular guess. Based on posts to this forum, it is extremely rare.

More lkely the source is something simple, like plugs and wires. You can't drive them and expect never to replace.

OTOH, we have seen O2 sensors cause drivability symptoms w/o setting a DTC (Check Engine Light set).

To eliminate possible problems resulting from previous trans work, check all vacuum lines and electrical connectors for security. Look for damaged ends on vacuum lines, connectors not mated to anything, or damaged wiring.

If all is intact, start w/ spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor.

good luck
