Default 2000 Accord, Is my mechanic trying to screw me?????

I just had the manual tranny changed in my 2000 Accord with a 4 cyl. engine. When I got it back, it would not rev over 4000 RPM's. I seacrhed this forum and discovered it could be the Vtec solenoid. My sone took the top off the solenoid and a piece was missing . It was the round 1/2 inch thick washer looking thingy that is shown in the pic. The car was running fine before the tranny change. Could this solenoid work without that part? Did my mechanic remove it in order to screw me out of more money. I have a new part ordered and hope that was the problem..............

Thats an important part of the VTEC solenoid. But your car should still be able to redline without the VTEC solenoid working. At least from what ive experienced. Rev limit can be caused by limp mode or a bad fuel supply (e.g. weak fuel pump). Your ECU may see an issue, especially after a major repair and something was missed, and then it will protect itself by limiting the RPMs.

But put the part in (a junkyard is a great place to get one- I think you can get it off any VTEC solenoid, if not at least 94-02 accords) it should spring back when pushed but be in there lose. I believe it helps direct the oil into the solenoid.

Mechanics can be pretty shady sometimes. I shop around before settling with one and even then I do most of my repairs myself.

I should have mentioned in the first post that before the tranny change, there were no codes showing when scanned. Then after the tranny change and it wouldn't rev past 4000RPM's, the code P1259 showed up. This code just happens to deal with a Vtec malfunction which would involve the Vtec solenoid. Question is will this missing part cure the problem. If it does, I think it's safe to say my mechanic is definitely shady........ I won't know till tomorrow when I get the missing part to replace whether or not he is.............................

Well an update. The Vtec soienoid was complete. The model I have does not require the 1/2 thick washer thing. What I did find to be my problem was with the mechanic but it was an easy fix. Come to find out, the electrical plug for the Vtec solenoid is the same plug as the solenoid oil pressure sending unit. The mechanic had the two connections swapped. I swapped out the cconnections and it WORKS again!!!!!!!!!!!!
