Default 2000 EX door/fender replacement

My car was hit in the door/fender while parked in a parking lot. Repair shops want from $1.5 to $2.5K to repair it. Have any of you had similar damage?
I was thinking about buying a door skin and probably a new fender and installing them myself. Some of the websites show replacing the door skin directly over the damaged skin and using some sort of glue to weld the two pieces together. On the front fender, I wonder how difficult it is to remove/replace. I've also found complete door assemblies for $350.00. I wonder if that would be the easiest.

No contest, a complete door assembly is way-WAY easier.
New fenders are relatively easy to install, ASSUMING no underlying damage.

The thing is, if the pillar between the fender and the door is in anyway out of alignment, you're going to need to have that taken care of before a new fender and door will fit.

Thanks for the response. I can't open the passenger side door, so there may be some other damage.
