2000 Honda Accord (California Emissions) ???????
Ok...im new to this Emissions stuff...and im Located in New Jersey
My Question is. I need a New Muffler mine is all Rusted and Broken up, i was gonna buy one off EBAY for like $30, nice Chromed one...But my mechanic was telling me that since my car is a California Emissions Car i won't be able to install any muffler on it, it would have to be a Muffler for California Emissions...i just say Ok, But what does that mean?...what is the difference...i know my car has a ULEV Vtec engine.
my Accord won't pass inspection either...
Now other Question is there a way to change from California to Federal on my car? or would i have to change engine? maybe a H22 lol
Plz any1 have any info, its greatly appreciated..

I cant say for certain but I would think the California emissions part would only be relevant in California.
As far as a certain exhaust fitting or not I'm not sure if the ULEV models had a different exhaust than the regular ones. If you are just cutting the old muffler off and welding a new one on it shouldn't really matter.

Take a look at a site like hondapartsnow.com. Find the muffler for your accord and click on the part number. The next page that opens has links on the bottom that you should click on to see what other accords use that same part.
The EX muffler is the same for California, ULEV, and the accords built for the other US states emission standards. I am guessing the LX/DX trims would be the same.

Ok Thanks for that Last response...so it doesn't have to be a Cali Emission Muffler....i'll shop around for one now....
And it would be a nightmare to "convert" your car to non-ULEV. It's not just the different engine, but the ECU and wiring harness are very different.
When you need to buy the front oxygen sensor, make sure the parts store lists a different one for the ULEV engine vs the non-ULEV. They ARE different but parts stores in Jersey might not have correct listings.
