Hello all, new member here in need of some dire help. I have a 2001 Honda accord EX with the 3.0 V6. My heater still blows as hard as always but not blowing hot air. Sometimes it blows warm but most times its room temp. From reading around I was thinking thermostat but im not having any issues with engine temp. No wetness on passenger floor so im not thinking heater core... anybody have any ideas? BTW the vehicle has digital temp control. Thank you guys for all your help... in a bit of a cold snap here in the NW lol.

 

First, look for the heater hoses at the firewall in the engine compartment. One has a valve, operated by a cable.

Key on (don't think you actually need the engine running), have someone turn the temperature from hot to cold while you watch. See whether the cable is operating the valve. If not, then come back with details. Cable moving but disconnected from valve? Cable not moving? Hear a motor running inside the dashboard?

There's a motor to operate an air-mix door for hot & cold air. At the same time this cable goes out to the engine compartment to operate the water valve.

If you occasionally hear grinding or snapping sounds from dash, it is likely from the air mix motor. They are a weak component across many vehicles employing ATC.

If you go under dash and adjust air temperature settting, and watch for movement you can locate the air mix motor and confirm it is not moving smoothly. Sometimes they vibrate back/forth or jump about in position.

Motor can usually be replaced fairly easily, but a new motor costs $150-$200. Some have managed to open/repair the motor (see froggy on youtube for a good example of Lexus air mix motor, very similar to Honda/Acura).

Had the same problem with my wifes accord. I replaced the thermostat and coolent,NOW she has some heat

 

First off I would make sure you are full of coolant. Then follow what Jim and Texas lined out.

 

Air mix control motor is centrally located behind AC/Heater control panel and mounted w/ outside case facing down. Three screws and one linkage connection to release to remove air mix motor. Access may be problematic.
