Post 2001 Honda Accord LX

Hi i just joined this forum wondering if i could get some help.
I have 2001 Honda Accord LX 2.3 L 4 Cylinder automatic it has 120 000 kms on it nothing has been changed.

My transmission always slips when i start driving it in the morning or even if the car has been parked while im at school or mall. Even if i wait for it to heat up 15 mins. The temperature gauge would show right at half point between cold and heat. Even than it still slips for first 10 mins of driving.

Would someone suggest changing the transmission or what would be the best solution?

Thanks allot guys looking forward to hearing some replys

Are there any stored codes? Have it checked to be sure, many stores offer this for free.

I'd try changing the trans fluid with Honda trans fluid. You'll need to do about three cycles of this, drive a few miles between each change. Total of ~nine quarts will be needed.

Then, I have to say this. The auto trans in the 98-02 Accord's is not the best. Take any other gen, IMO, auto trans and they are rock solid.

The design in the 98-02 auto trans would allow the "flow control" to gum up and stick. So at low rpms (less than 1,200, like sitting in traffic), there is no flow thru the trans cooler - which is when it is needed more than ever.....basically overheating the trans which causes it to fail.

Again, check for codes. Get fresh Honda Trans fluid in it. Keep fresh Honda trans fluid in it - I'd do one drain and fill every 15K. It may never be "the same" again but it could last for years as is.

Default Had same issue in my 99

Just because the engine gets hot doesn’t mean the transmission gets hot. If letting the vehicle warm up before driving doesn’t help, and it only works properly when driving a while, it is more than likely a problem with the internal rubber seals between the clutch pistons and drums. If it’s not too inconvenient, you could probably continue to drive it that way for a long time. It’s unlikely this problem will leave you stranded. I drove mine this way for two years before having the tranny rebuilt. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this would be to have it rebuilt or replaced.

I would change the fluid as stated and drive it as is for as long as you can. From what I've heard and read, many people haven't had much luck with rebuilt transmissions in these cars.
