Default 2002 4cyl automatic tranny problems

160,000 miles, 10,000 miles ago changed tranny fluid back to back with the dealership fluid. If i am driving, stop at a red light briefly (catching an already red one) when greenaccelerate the car goes to shift out of first into second and seems to slam into what i think is third. The problem had got progressively worse. Now if I am at a complete stop for say 3 or so minutes and accelerate it shifts fine. Its only on a sorta stop and go. Help would be appreciated.

It is a known issue for the 6th gen (1998-2002) and some 2003 auto trannies to just randomly die at any mileage because of a design flaw
Honda was sued in a class action lawsuit and the warranty extended to 7 years from delivery date/109,000 miles on the transmission. It sounds like yours may be beginning the ends of its life. Some people reported that Lucas Transmission Fix/Oil will extend its life a little bit.

So its probably not easily fixable, it would need a complete rebuild? Is buying a reman an option? Or will i have the same prob?

You rebuild/buy a new one for that same price as a manual tranny swap. Either way, the transmission isnt fixable and you will run into the same problem again down the road.

Another one bites the dust.

This is a fairly common problem as finch said. I have heard horror stories of people replacing the transmission 3 or 4 times. If you were to get a new one they generally come with a 3 year 30,000 mile warranty or something close to that, but after that there is nothing to say it would not happen again.

IMO, sell it and get something smaller that has an engine prepped for forced induction, then put a little turbo on it ......

Someone around here has a real list, but until then....

You need hardware in the console, like brackets & stuff to hold the shift lever itself. Its a cable shifter, so theres 2 cables going to the manual tranny.

Clutch & brake pedal assembly to replace your brake pedal asy.

Clutch hydraulic system (MC & slave & tubing between). Clutch MC doesnt always have the fluid reservoir included because its not directly mounted (its on a hose).

Your radiator has a tranny cooler built in. Leave it there; manual tranny has no need for that cooler.

Flywheel from a manual-tranny engine. ALSO THE BOLTS - they are longer for a MT flywheel.

Clutch assembly = clutch disk, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing.

Instrument cluster without the PRND32 lamps?

Yourcomputeris a PCM - combined engine & trannycontrol module. I dont know if you can simply disable the portion that controls the tranny. So maybe you need a new PCM.
