2002 Accord SE 4Cyl Fuel Economy in the pits
I have an 02 SE up here in Canada. Owned it since new. Approx 130,000kms now. Serviced as required as per owners manual.
Lately, the fuel economy has tanked. It's now about 13L/100kms in local city driving. I do gun it a bit once in a while but nothing harsh.
All fluids are changed. Tire Pressure is good. Changed the Spark Plugs in July. Air Filter is good.
Other then an occasional slip of the tranny, it runs great.
Any thoughts?

Since the majority of members don't use the metric system, 13L/100kms wont mean much to us. Let's see if I can convert this into MPG for everyone.
13L = approx 3.434 gal
100 km = approx 62.137 miles
so MPG would be about 18.10 - wow that's terrible. I get 30 MPG city driving in my 2000 LX.
How are you calculating the mileage? Do you fill up, set the trip odometer, run it to empty, then fill up again, see how many gallons (liters in your case) it takes to fill it, then divide the mileage (km in your case) by the liters?

haha okay, my bad.
Okay what I've done is fill it up, reset trip, drive it till near empty (I like to play "Chicken" hehe"..) refill and calculate how many kms I've driven and how many liters I have used.
So if I drive for approx 500kms...then fill up...add X amount of liters...well that is amount of liters used...so then it's a simple calculation.
Yes horibble. It runs smoooth, starts great, stops great, turns off great. I checked the air pressure and air filter last night, looks good. I might pull all the plugs tonight and have a quick look to ensure they aren't fubar'd.

Raw gas Smell now?
So this morning, driving to work I started to smell "gasoline" while the heater was on.
It only happened while at a light or stop, not while I was actually driving.
At first I thought it ws the cars around me, but as I pulled into my work parking spot, I noticed it again and this time no one was around me.
What gives? Fuel Leak? Injector Leak?

Look at all the fuel lines in the engine compartment, especially after a drive. Anything wet? Any way to pinpoint a location for the smell?
It's not too difficult to remove the fuel rail & put all new O-ring seals on the injectors.
Then check the fuel lines running down the underside of the floorpan. On a 95 Integra, I had corrosion on them so they began leaking. Not any gross leak, but the steel tube became perforated with microscopic holes, so the fuel kinda slowly oozed out. At first you could just smell it. Later the fuel lines were wet, but it would evaporate before it could drip on the ground. I had all those lines replaced before it got much worse...

Well I drove home last night. no Smell.
Got a big trouble light out and checked the engine, while it was running and while it was off, for leaks. No leaks. No SMell.
Drive in this morning, no smell.
Sigh, gotta keep an eye on it.
Much appreciated for all teh tips so far!
