Is it too much ? But when compared to replace the new rotors, i guess this way i can drive for a while? Not sure for how long.

What is your take on this?

 

Mechanic advised the rotor's are 5% left at the rear and 10% life left at the front.

So instead of replacing brand new rotors and "to save some money" he recommended to fix the wrapped rotors by turning them and replacing new brake pads.

Cost for the fix estimation is $140 on each side which comes total to 3K.

Is it high or what is your take on this?

 

I think you need to find a new mechanic. Any mechanic which recommends turning rotors which only have 5% thickness remaining before the minimum thickness cannot be trusted.

As for the rotors being the issue, maybe it is how you described the issue, but I'm having a really difficult time correlating warped (or hot-spotted) rotors with your words. I'm not saying the rotors aren't the cause, just that your description of the issue doesn't line up with bad rotors.

Best way too eliminate brake problem is get on hill, put car in neutral and see if it rolls. 9 times out of 10 this will tell you if the calipers are locking up.

 

thanks Shipo and everyone for the comments. I have decided to leave it for now and replace with new later on.

But i got one more issue. Some clicking noise coming out from the passenger dashboard when starting the engine. The noise goes way after sometime during highway speed or it is not audible inside the cabin.

Is it a serious issue?

 

A noise is always hard to figure out over the internet....is it like the blower motor ticking when it is on?

 

hard for me to explain it here...will see if i can post the audio. but it is coming only during ignition or when engine is cold. Have to inspect visually and update. thanks
