Default 2003 Accord Drivers Lock Problem

My 2003 Accord has the notorious driver's side lock actuator issue. I can't lock it or unlock it using the key fob. Even inside the car, it's quirky when not using the fob. Found the part on eBay (it's a coupe) for just over 20 dollars. To repeat what a member asked above, how do you remove the door panel without breaking any clips? I don't want to take it off and then reinstall it only to discover broken clips and potentially a rattling door panel.

removing the door panel w/ the door closed is not a normal process and may damage the door panel. Those who have done this also removed the drivers seat to gain access room. Problem must be fixed and door panel must be removed, damaged or not. I know that door panel removal is possible, but not sure that damage is avoidable.

They make a door panel tool. You just have to locate the clips. There are also some clips holding the plastic sheet that is glued to the door.

Because of closeness of door jam to door panel access to the retaining clips is difficult. You may need to fabricate a pry w/ a right angle bend and short tip to get behind the panel and pry.

Shop manual diagram will be handy to know about where the clips are located. If you pry at the clip location on the panel, you will have best chance of release w/o damaging the door.

good luck
