Default 2003 EX Accord Strut assembly complete with coil Spring?

On my 2003 Accord EX 4cylinder I would like to know if the OEM Honda Strut assembly comes complete with turning bearing, coil spring and all the rest. The Strut assembly has all the parts boxed in the diagram but the lines are broken. Majestic Honda says it comes with everything but considering the little difference in price from just the Strut (they call it a shock) I am wondering if they are mistaken.

Sure looks like it includes the spring & everything. But I'm also confused by the price like you said. Like getting the spring for free.

This is what Majestic emailed below. I was thinking that the non assembly shock was just an insert and reused the body and the assembly was both. I haven’t done many struts other than for Roush and when they first came out on front wheel drive American cars. For the price with the spring and not having to transfer springs and buy the hardware it seems like the way to go.

“Product number 1371560 is the entire assembly with springs and hardware. Product number 1782959 is just the shock.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do.

Thank you,

River, P. Manivong”

I finally got around to doing the struts which did complete with springs and everything ready to go. The first one took an hour the second one fifteen minutes.

Chris,

Can you share with us how did you go about changing the struts? Did you document your work to share? I have a leaking front passenger strut and each time I drove over an "interrrupted road or bump", it makes a clunking noise on the FR Right. I looked at the coil strut assembly and it showed some signs of hydralic leak.

Can you email me the procedure? Thanks,

Please don't post your email in clear text - that's a spam magnet for the whole site.

Go into USER-CP & look for a setting that says something like "allow users to email you". Then they can send you an email by clicking your screen-name above any post.

I unbolted the shock absorber fork which the shock attaches to at the bottom from the shock and lower control arm and moved it back a little. Then removed the top bolts holding the shock and lifted up the control arm assemble as the shock slide down and then grabbed the top of the shock and pulled it out. With the Fork out of the way at the bottom it is just a matter wiggling the shock out. The first one I unbolted the control arm and found it didn’t help. It wasn't much more of a cost to get the whole shock with spring than just the shock which made it an easy job.

Chris,

I couldn't find anywhere you can buy entire assembly "the whole shock with spring " as you had suggested. I found it's available individually but not entire assembly together. Can you give the site or company name to look up?

I got them from Honda. Both fronts were around $ 245 shipped from Majestic Honda. You can buy just the shock or the whole deal.

Thanks so much Chris. I confirmed it at Majestic Honda and it's true...only $5.00 more to get ENTIRE ASSEMBLY which included coil spring and whole nine-yard rather than just the Strut/Shock. Wow...I have been looking at the wrong places.

It's nice to have forums like this where people pool in resources and information to help out.
