2004 Honda Accord EX 2.4- Air box housing cracked
Sooo.... Checking the fluids this morning on the wife's car and went to check the air filter and the top housing is cracked along the back side towards the motor. I just bought the car(Dec), and I am going to call them in the morning. I got a warranty with it, 5,000 mile extended, but my luck, that will be the only part NOT covered in it!
Now I found a used one on ebay for $95+ SH. My question, is it worth it to put on an aftermarket intake for my wife's daily driver? Not looking to break the bank and spend more than $200 MAYBE. I can do it myself as well.
Thanks for any input!

Depending on the nature of the crack, it may be easy to repair. Here's what I've done w/ similar problems:
1) Stop drill a small hole in crack end/s. This stops any further crack growth in future.
2) Clean surfaces inside and outside of crack and roughen w/ sandpaper if smooth.
3) Cut strips of ripstop nylon (old umbrella is good source) to cover the crack. Width should be ~1/2"
4) Butter surface around crack and nylon strip generously w/ 2-part repair epoxy. I like J-B Weld.
5) Apply nylon strip along crack bridging the crack. Smooth out trapped bubbles to get a relatively smooth surface.
6) Allow first side to cure and repeat for both sides of crack.
7) Allow to dry, sand smooth, and paint w/ flat black paint.
This repair is permanent.
Cold Air Intakes are poor substitute for original air filter assy.
If repair isn't practical, check car-part.com for a used box. I found them as cheap as $35. You may need to mail order.
good luck
