Default 2004 Transmission Issue

I am looking at having to have a transmission overhaul on my 04 automatic, v6, 136k mi, but would like to pick yalls brains on the issue i'm having first.

From start, it drives and shifts normally. However after 4-5 miles, rpms will spike randomly, and it will occasionally downshift or be very sluggish in up shifting (needing 5500+ rpm). The best way I can think to describe it would be the clutch (or its automatic equivalent) is partially engaging at times and preventing power from reaching the wheels.

Within a few miles of the shifting issues, the car will completely lose power and will not move regardless of the rpms. However, if the car is turned off and allowed to sit for 15-20 min, it will run normally for a bit until the above issue reappears.

One note: about 2.5 months/850 miles ago i had the transmission fluid flushed and replaced (it may not have been done before that). I checked the transmission fluid dipstick, and the fluid level was almost 3 inches over the top hole on the stick. Not sure how overfilled that implies, but id think that could be a problem.

Thanks for the help.

What do you mean by "flushed"? Did they use Honda fluid? How did you check the fluid level (engine on or off)?
