Default 2004 Honda Accord Coupe EX Battery issue

Hi there,

I purchased this car in the summer of 2008. I've never really had any issues with it besides some times the car will take a crank or two longer to turn over. Yesterday I shut my car off like normal then decided to repark. So I tried to start the car again however the car would not crank. It wouldn't start at all or make any sound like it was even going to start. Then the interior lights did a really weird thing. It would dim, go bright, dim, go bright, dim, go bright repeatedly at .5 second intervals. I couldn't even lock the doors or anything.

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? It is extremely odd as the car was running fine moments before hand.

I tried to jump start but all it would do is crank but never turn over.

The car has 45,000 miles.

Thank you for any assistance!

Something is up with the battery. You can have the battery tested at an o'reillys or autozone.

Also check that all ends of both battery cables are clean and secure.

Thanks, all the terminals are erosion free.

If I get a new battery, what is the most powerful battery I can get that is still compatible with my car? Thank you

My 2003 Coupe has a small battery tray and there are few choices in replacement batteries. I got the one with the most Cold Cranking Amps Auto Zone sells.

I think stock battery size is group 35 or 34... either way they're at least 650 CCA, plenty for your car.

The key is quality. A lot of batteries don't even come close to what the sticker on top says... like Wal-Mart NEverStart batteries, etc. My Die Hard battery has never given me any issues, I just put a Rayovac battery from Batteries Plus in my friends 99 Accord, that also starts every time.

I believe the battery group number is 51r if it is a 4cylinder Acccord.

It is a pretty small battery. I got one for my 2003 and AutoZone had one(their store brand) with the highest Cold Cranking Amps. It was one of the brands Consumer Reports recommended. I think the other was the Die Hard but who knows which brand is going to give you good service. I just have an AutoZone close. It has cranks well in the cold weather something the OEM didn't.

Thanks guys, I got a new battery with 640 CCA and it's running fine. I guess it was just time for the battery to go out.
