It's actually a 3.0V6, would that matter for the valve adjustment? I did notice a ticking sound coming from the engine.

I dont think it's the coil because when i disconnect the wire the engine does shake slightly, but i did notice the engine shaking more when i disconnect the other cylinder coils.

The last time the plugs were changed was at 74K, I'm thinking it's time to change them now being the engine has over 125K.

Thanks.

Yes, you have solid lifters that periodically need adjustment. See attached page.

Intake valves tend to get looser causing noise but no damage. However exhaust valves get tighter which can lead to missing and eventually burn valve/s.

It's worth replacing plugs while doing valve adjustment as access will be easier. Rear bank valve adjustment can be a challenge.

good luck

As an update. I changed all six plugs and Cylinder 4 coil and that made a big difference. The defective coil for Cylinder 4 was covered in oil, and plug was very loose, which was very odd to me because the others were not loose. I didn't even need to put my ratchet to loosen it. I actually heard it loose in the Cylinder. Has anyone heard of this situation before? I never heard of just one plug becoming loose. I'm wondering if this was intentionally done to my car from the dealer?

Also, I do not hear the ticking sound anymore, but I'm wondering if i still need the valves adjusted? I'm assume so because the car has over 125K?

Thank you!

I've heard of loose plugs and even plugs that "blow out" stripping threads, but no good explanations except someone left them loose.

The ticking sound could have been a gas leak by the plug. New plug tube seals are needed to stop leaks from valve cover into spark plug tube.

good luck

I've heard of (and seen) loose plugs before (friends Chevy V8). I've even had a plug shoot out of a cylinder before too (on a VW). Work on cars long enough, and you begin to see all sorts of weird stuff. Some times it's the mechanic getting in a hurry, other times it could have been some sort of interuption. When the plug shot out, it took the threads out with it.
Hopefully you fixed your problem. I'd probably keep an eye out on #4 though. It might have been installed loose, or it might have some other issue going on.
