Default 2006 EX engine noise/chirping??

My 2006 started making a chirping/whistling noise last winter. It only did it when the engine was warm. As soon as the temperatures rose above 60 degrees F the engine noise stopped. This winter the noise returned and has not gone away even though the temp has warmed up outside. I've taken it in several times and the dealer has no idea what it is. One guy told me "all of the old hondas make that noise." Um, thanks but its an '06. Can anyone help or at least give me some ideas to present to the mechanics....it's incredibly frustrating to be a woman in some of these situations!! Thanks in advance!

Noises are always tough. IF you can get it to make the noise while stopped, try to pinpoint the location of the sound.

And... tell us what kind of engine you have. V-6? 4-cyl? Automatic or manual tranny?

Accessory belts like to chirp and whine until they warm up and "bite" on the pulleys if they are a little loose. Because it happened in cooler weather at first and went away in warmer weather, then didn't go away in warmer weather leads me to believe that the belts have just loosened up more and are chirping more.

Does the noise happen during stop and go driving or while cruising also?

Thank you for the info! It's a V6 automatic...and it does the chirping while cruising as well. I have broughtmy car inand brought the techs out to the parking lot and they have heard it...it seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine....but that is as specific as I can get.

If the techs aren't more help than that, maybe try someplace else?

A scrap piece of garden hosemakes a goodpoor-man's stethoscope. You have to be careful not to get caught up in the spinning pulleys but youmight be able topinpoint the location of the noise.

I think your externaldrive belt has a spring-loaded tensioner pulley. So they don't loosen up so easily like older cars. Still, the tensioner spring can get weak. Shop can check whether it has the proper amount of force.

The belt itself can get hard & slippery with age & heat, even tho it still LOOKS good and itisn't gonna BREAK. That makes it more prone to squeaking.
